What does a 10 panel drug test test for? It screens for the ten drugs, metabolites or drug classes listed for the selected device. There is no single ten-panel combination used by every manufacturer or testing program.

That distinction matters when ordering supplies. Two cups can have the same panel count while screening for different substances. Compare the exact labels in our 10 panel drug test cup category before choosing a configuration.

Drugs Tested For in a 10 Panel Drug Screen

Most 10 panel drug screens are built from the same group of commonly tested drug classes, then adjusted to fit the program. A typical 10 panel drug screen draws from the following panels:

Abbreviation Drug or Drug Class
AMP Amphetamine
BAR Barbiturates
BZO Benzodiazepines
COC Cocaine (benzoylecgonine)
MET / mAMP Methamphetamine
MTD Methadone
OPI Opiates (morphine, codeine)
OXY Oxycodone
PCP Phencyclidine
THC Marijuana (THC metabolite)

Many configurations swap one or more of these for MDMA, buprenorphine (BUP), tricyclic antidepressants (TCA), propoxyphene (PPX), fentanyl (FEN/FYL) or EtG for alcohol. Always confirm the exact drug list and cutoff levels on the product label before ordering.

10 Panel Drug Screen vs 5 and 12 Panel Tests

A 5 panel test covers the core drug classes used in federally regulated testing, while a 10 panel drug screen adds prescription and other commonly misused drugs such as benzodiazepines, barbiturates, methadone and oxycodone. A 12 panel test adds two more assays on top of that. See our comparisons of the 5 panel vs 10 panel drug test and the 10 panel vs 12 panel drug test to choose the right coverage.

What Does a 10 Panel Drug Test Test For: One Specific Example

The 120ml Serenity cup with MDMA and buprenorphine includes the following ten assays. This is one product’s configuration, not a universal ten-panel standard.

Drug or Drug Class Panel Code
Amphetamines AMP
Buprenorphine BUP
Benzodiazepines BZO
Cocaine COC
MDMA/Ecstasy MDMA
Methamphetamine MET
Methadone MTD
Opiates OPI
Oxycodone OXY
Marijuana metabolite THC

This model uses OPI/300. A similar-looking ten-panel cup can use OPI/2000 or replace one of the listed assays with another target. Read the complete cutoff table on the individual product page.

How Ten-Panel Configurations Differ

The examples below show why a panel count alone cannot identify the right cup. Review current availability and each product’s labeling when comparing them.

Configuration Examples Key Difference
MDMA and buprenorphine 90ml cup or the 120ml example above These two versions list matching assays and cutoffs.
Barbiturates and THC 90ml BAR cup BAR/300 replaces MDMA/500.
K2 and MDMA 90ml K2 cup or 120ml K2 cup Both include K2/50 and OPI/2000.
EtG and fentanyl 90ml cup with validity indicators or 120ml cup Both include EtG/300 and fentanyl/20. Review validity features separately.
Kratom, K2 and EtG 90ml specialty cup This combination includes THC.
Kratom, K2, EtG and fentanyl 120ml specialty cup This combination includes fentanyl instead of THC.
Fentanyl with methadone and oxycodone 120ml fentanyl cup Includes dedicated MTD and OXY panels, without EtG.
MDMA with OPI/2000 120ml OPI2000 cup Uses a different opiate cutoff from the MDMA example above.

Are Alcohol, Fentanyl, K2 and Kratom Included?

Each requires the appropriate assay in the selected configuration. EtG indicates alcohol-metabolite screening; FEN or FYL may identify fentanyl; K2 identifies the specified synthetic-cannabinoid assay; and KRA identifies the listed kratom assay.

EtG does not measure blood alcohol concentration. An OPI panel does not substitute for a fentanyl panel, and a THC panel does not substitute for K2. Assay coverage and cross-reactivity must be checked in the matching insert.

For additional background, read our alcohol and EtG testing guide. Our 7-OH kratom guide also explains why a KRA label alone should not be treated as proof of specific 7-OH detection.

How to Choose the Correct 10 Panel Cup

  1. List the required targets. Match every required drug or metabolite to a listed assay.
  2. Compare cutoffs. The same drug-class abbreviation can appear with different thresholds.
  3. Check the exact device. Verify cup size, specimen requirements, intended use and any specimen-validity features.
  4. Review instructions and quantity. Use the supplied reading window and compare current pricing for the required quantity.

Specimen-validity indicators such as pH, specific gravity and creatinine provide different information from drug assays. They should not be counted as three additional drug panels.

What Do the Results Tell You?

Rapid cups provide preliminary screening results. They do not identify impairment, establish an exact time of use or provide a numerical drug concentration. Follow the device’s instructions and obtain appropriate laboratory confirmation before treating a non-negative screen as a confirmed result.

Use our result-reading guide for Control and Test line examples. If your required combination needs more assays, compare 10 panel and 12 panel drug tests.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all 10 panel drug tests contain the same drug list?

No. Ten panels describe the number of screening assays. One cup may include MDMA and methadone, while another includes EtG, fentanyl, K2 or kratom. Compare the complete configuration.

Does a 10 panel drug test include alcohol?

Only a configuration with an alcohol-related assay, such as EtG, provides that screening. EtG is an alcohol metabolite; its result does not measure blood alcohol concentration or current impairment.

Does an opiate panel mean the cup also tests for fentanyl?

No. Check for a dedicated fentanyl assay identified by its full name and the abbreviation used on the device, such as FEN or FYL.

Does a 120ml cup test for more drugs than a 90ml cup?

Cup capacity does not determine panel count. Both sizes can contain ten assays, and their combinations may match or differ. Check each product’s panel list and supplied instructions.

What drugs are tested for in a 10 panel drug screen?

A 10 panel drug screen usually draws from amphetamine, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methamphetamine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP and THC. The exact list depends on the configuration, so always check the product label.

Is a 10 panel drug screen a urine test?

Most 10 panel drug screens use a urine test cup or dip card. Oral fluid devices with similar panel counts also exist, but their drug lists and detection windows differ from urine tests.
