A screening cutoff is the concentration used to distinguish a preliminary negative result from a preliminary non-negative result. A negative result does not necessarily mean that no drug or metabolite is present; it may be present below the assay cutoff.

Buprenorphine requires a dedicated assay and is not automatically detected by a general opiate panel. This cup includes a separate BUP assay at a 10 ng/mL cutoff.

• Negative: Both the Control line and Test line appear for the corresponding assay. A faint Test line should be interpreted according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
• Preliminary non-negative: The Control line appears, but the Test line does not appear for the corresponding assay.
• Invalid: The Control line does not appear. Repeat the procedure with a new device.
